In the inaugural episode of threshold | between, recorded live in community at The KINN in Venice, California, Tiffany Raether sits down with Will Cady, former Reddit executive, founder of HEAL MVMNT, and author of Which Way Is North: A Creative Compass for Makers, Marketers, and Mystics, to explore the morality of AI at a civilizational turning point. Drawing from Cady’s book and his essay The War Nobody’s Watching, their conversation explores human agency, knowledge and power, who AI ultimately serves, and the competing visions of humanity and the future unfolding through the AI revolution. Together, they interrogate the ontological assumptions underlying modernity and how inherited ideas of separation, progress, efficiency, and scaling inform what we call innovation, asking what becomes possible when we examine not only what we are creating, but the assumptions upon which creation rests. Rather than seeking easy answers, the conversation invites us to remain present to complexity with courage, discernment, and moral imagination, and to consider the responsibility we hold for the worlds we are co-creating and the ancestors we are becoming.
